Jake Wohleb is seventeen years old from Austin, Texas where he is a senior at James Bowie High School. Jake currently plays snare on the drumline for the nationally acclaimed James Bowie HS Outdoor Performing Ensemble. He has been a member of the top Wind Ensemble for the past two years. Jake is also a member of the Bowie Steel Drums Ensemble, under the direction of Amy Suggs and CJ Menge. He has arranged and composed pieces for the group that have been performed in many concerts including the Inside Out Steel Drum Festival at One World Theatre. Jake’s first orchestral composition, Luminescence, was submitted to the Austin Symphony Orchestra Young Composers Contest and was one of the selected winners. The piece was performed by the Austin Symphony Orchestra in April, 2015. 

 

Jake has studied percussion for the past six years under the guidance of Bill Haehnel. He has continued to excel musically under Bowie directors Ryan Thomas and Kim Shuttlesworth. Jake earned first chair at this year’s TMEA All-Region Contest, and has received superior ratings for the past two years at the UIL Texas State Solo and Ensemble Contest. He has been a guest performer with the Austin Symphonic Band on several occasions. Jake was recently selected to perform in the Music for All Honor Orchestra of America, receiving the Vic Firth Endowment Award for the Principle Percussion position. He is currently a member of the Music Honor Society, and has been arranging and composing music for five years. Jake hopes to continue his music education in college. His goal is to attend the University of Texas at Austin.
